Residents Of Satellite Town Demand Relocation Of Tank Farms And Bonded Terminals.

Residents of Satellite Town in Oriade Council Development Area, of Lagos State have staged a protest over the environmental risks and degradation posed by activities at tank farms in the area.
The residents who stormed the State House at Alausa, demanded the immediate relocation of all tank farms in the area.
The protesters including very senior citizens also demanded the revocation of approvals issued to new container terminals and relocation of existing ones to prevent further loss of lives and property within the axis.
A septuagenarian, retired Captain Adebayo Adekoya, told Radio One that the tank farms had blocked the drainage system in Satellite town, stressing that residents now use rain boots in their houses due to persistent flooding.
Captain Adekoya on behalf of the residents, called for the removal of the Bonded Terminal at Alakija Bus stop and relocation of the planned Jetty Terminal Operation, noting that such facility is not meant for a residential area.
Addressing the protesters, Political Director, Office of Civic Engagement, Mr. Hundeyin Kolawole, who expressed concern over their plights, promised to convey their message to Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu and would invite them back in the next one week.
Our Correspondent Yemisi Dada reports that residents of Satellite Town during the protest which lasted for hours, came with their foods and displayed placards with different inscriptions such as “No to new approval of Container terminal in Satellite Town, Ijegun-Egba”, “Tanker Driver kills people daily in Satellite; Must we die before government listen to us” and “New tank farm is a danger to our lives” among others.
