Norway trains Nigerians on seafood safety.

Twenty Nigerian chefs have been trained in Lagos on how to prepare seafood especially stockfish.

It was courtesy the Norwegian Seafood Council.

They also trained importers of the products on how to preserve them against contamination.

A Counsellor in the Embassy of Norway, Mr. Christian Fougner said that the training was necessitated by reports of some Nigerians using sniper to preserve stockfish and other seafoods.

The Director of Fishery and Aquaculture, Dr. Ime Umoh said that the Ministry of Agriculture was committed to eliminating on wholesome practices.

He said that the Ministry was developing guidelines of standards of farms that can export, training of farm inspectors and developing residue monitoring plans.

According to him, the Ministry has ensured that various export processing facilities have in place hazard analysis and critical control plan.

Besides, he said that they were building the capacity of indigenous smoked fish farmers on the safest method of storage.

A Research Scientist, Dr. Bjorn Trore Potabakte for conducted the training said that mould or black spots on stockfish are signs of contamination.
