The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency , LASEPA, has sealed off two illegal unregistered E – Waste factories

The factories which are situated at 19, Sule Abuka, street Opebi Lagos and 15 Adekunle Fajuyi, GRA ikeja are managed by Chinese nationals.

According to LASEPA’s General Manager, Mr Ayodele Antonio, the factories engage in handling, recycling and transporting of electronic devices to Asian countries without operational permit thereby contravening the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law, 2017.

Mr. Antonio lamented the non challant attitudes of the operators to basic rules guiding the trade despite several warnings and advocacies towards operational engagement and warned that nobody would be allowed to operate in the State without valid documentation as obtaining permit before operation is sacrosanct

He said the State had developed effective and appropriate technology for safe management of handling, storing, recovery, recycling transporting, controlling, treatment and disposal of E-waste materials and urged operators of the trade to avail themselves of the opportunities provided by the government to safeguard the environment without compromising the health, protection of property and quality of residents.

The LASEPA GM that the agency would comb all the nooks and crannies of the state to maintain orderliness and sanity in the area of E-Waste management and other environmental related issues.
