The Lagos State Assembly has debunked a media report alleging that the Speaker, Chief Mudashiru Obasa spend seventeen million naira on monthly basis to maintain his residence and guest house.
The Assembly during plenary described the allegation as baseless and misleading and a deliberate attempt to tarnish the image of the Assembly.
The Clerk of the Assembly Mr. Azeez Sanni said that the said amount covers various expenditure to meet the growing demand and specialty of the House and has been in existence since 2012 when it was N27million monthly.
Reacting, Chairman House Committee On Finance, Mr. Rotimi Olowo said Sahara Reporters’ has a track record for inciting the public by deliberately publishing misleading reports while the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Strategy and Security, Chief Tunde Braimoh said that the media outfit ought to have reached out to the Assembly.
Our Assembly correspondent quotes Speaker Obasa as saying that the motion was necessary to enable Lagosians know that the Assembly was not reckless or frivolous in expending taxpayers money.
