The Lagos State government is to double the hazards allowance of all the officials of the State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, from next month.
This is to motivate them to effectively discharge their duties and shun corrupt practices on the road.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu, made the pronouncement while brainstorming with the officials on their challenges on the job during a visit to the LASTMA Headquarters in Oshodi.
Governor Sanwo-olu noted that it would no longer be business as usual for traffic offenders who are granted undue privileges, stating that any traffic offender would be sanctioned accordingly irrespective of status.
The Governor also warned any LASTMA official who is caught in lackadaisical attitude with a call on them to respect and treat with caution any traffic offender arrested.
Earlier, some of the LASTMA officials complained of lack of working tools, conducive environment for working, inadequate security for those on night duties, as well as free medical treatment for any official while on duty.
Our Correspondent Yemisi Dada reports that the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Wale Musa, reiterated the commitment of the agency to implement the executive order on Traffic Management and also asked for improved welfare for his officers.
