Lagos Assembly Advocates Ban On Sale and Consumption of “Sokudaiye”

Members of Lagos State Assembly have expressed worry over the increasing rate on sale of harmful substances mixed with chemicals which results in weakness and loss of consciousness.

The lawmakers while deliberating on a motion raised by Mr. Hakeem Soluble observed that a harmful substance popularly known as “Sokudaiye” made from Chloroform, when consumed affect the central nervous system.

Mr. Sokunle informed his colleagues that many of such substances contained elements with varying concentration that result in damage of vital organs such as brain, liver and kidney.

Other lawmakers who supported the motion expressed concern that the continous sale of sokundaiye and other herbal conditions across the state has negative impact on the wellbeing of consumers and would amount to waste of public funds in the health sector.

Correspondent Akinboye Akintola reports that the House resolved to call on Governor Babajide SanwoOlu to direct relevant authorities to curb sales of Sokundaiye and other dangerous substances as well as sensitize residents to stop patronizing hawkers of these substances.
