Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu has directed the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hakeem Odumosu to investigate the alleged harassment of some protesters who were arrested at the Lekki Tollgate last Saturday.
Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotoso, who made this known at a joint news conference in Ikeja, said the Governor directed the CP to punish any officer found culpable.
While expressing reservations over arguments that tolling on Lekki expressway caused the perennial gridlock, Mr Omotosho stressed that the work from the home policy of government occasioned by Covid-19 pandemic was responsible for the current reduction in traffic.
Also speaking, the Managing Director of Lekki Concession Company, LCC Mr Yomi Omomuwasan explained that his organization stopped operations at the tollgate in support of Forensic audit and not because its facilities were attacked in October last year.
He stated further that the Company has many obligations including servicing of debts, which stood at eleven point five billion naira owed Local Banks and thirty-one million dollars owed International Development Banks.
Correspondent Yemisi Dada quotes Mr. Omomuwasan as saying that the livelihood of over five hundred youths have been affected since LCC stopped operations at Lekki tollgate, hence the company needed to get back to work.
