EU EOM Observer Commends Nigerians, On Just Concluded Elections

The European Union Elections Observation Mission (EU EOM) to Nigeria have commended Nigerians and the civil society organisations’ role in enhancing the transparency and accountability of the electoral process.

EU, Chief Observer, Maria Arena made this known in Abuja while presenting a preliminary statement on the election.

She said that in spite of the fact that Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) operated in a difficult environment, there was significant improvement from 2015.

The EU Chief observers stressed the need for regular communication and transparency in the nation”s electoral process.

She said the last minute postponement of the election from the earlier date and the delayed Commencement of voting on the rescheduled date, placed an undue burden on voters.

On the peace accord signed by candidates, the EU Chief Observer said the initiative was a good sign for the country”s democratic journey.

According to Mrs Arena, EU observers visited 261 polling units and 91 collation centres across thirty one states of the country and the Federal Capital Territory.
