Another building has collapsed in Lagos .
It is a three storey building on Kakawa Street which gave way around one pm today.
The building had no occupant probably because it was one of the eighty distressed buildings marked for demolition.
Large crowd of people besieged the collapse site, even as rescue efforts are ongoing to recover property trapped in the rubble.
A councillor representing the area said the building had been making cracking noise for days which promoted the local government authority to inform the state government to demolish it.The Councilor said that occupants of the building had been forced to vacate about one month ago.
Part of the rubble fell on a bungalow next to the collapsed building. An occupant of the bungalow said they had been given order to evacuate since their house was also marked for demolition. He appealed to the state government to support them to rent another accommodation.
Meanwhile, The Lagos State Government has urged occupants of marked distressed buildings across the State to immediately vacate them pending the arrival of the demolition team of Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA).
Also, relief and resettlement centres have been opened to accommodate those affected.
Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Prince Rotimi Ogunleye made the appeal just as a distressed three-storey building located on No 50, Kakawa Street, Campos, Lagos Island collapsed today without any casualty.
He noted that 25 buildings have already been removed by LASBCA as the Government has stepped up measures to rid the State of distressed buildings so as to prevent loss of lives and property due to sudden collapse in the State
